In many cases, pipe or drain blockages can be cleared with chemicals and/or a plunger but when that doesn’t do the job, then we can turn to our ‘not so secret’ weapon – the jet rodder.

What is a jet rodder or water jetter?

What exactly is a jet rodder and how does it work?

A jet rodder, otherwise known as a high pressure water jetter, consists of a high pressure flexible hose which is attached to a precision nozzle. A CCTV camera is used to guide the hose down the pipe to the source of the blockage.

Water is then pumped at high intensity into the hose, forcing powerful jets of water out of the nozzle. The pressure is so intense that it can disperse pretty much any type of blockage and can also cut tree roots into tiny fragments which can be washed away.

Once the blockage has been cleared, a rear facing jet cleans the pipe thoroughly while propelling it back through the pipe.

Drain jetter uses

We use drain jetters or jet rodders to unblock both sewers and stormwater pipes.

Sewer drains

Sewer drainage pipes are typically located within or under buildings and transport the sewerage to the sewer main or septic tank. Blockages in the sewer can be caused by a buildup of food and grease, broken and crushed pipes, tree roots, and foreign objects getting into the pipes.

Stormwater drains

Stormwater pipes are used to collect the water that collects on the roof of a property and runs through separate pipes to the sewer pipes. They either connect with a stormwater pit or flow into a roadside gutter. The pipes can become blocked by leaf debris, tree roots which have entered the pipework underground, or through a crack or breakage in the pipe.

Both stormwater and sewer pipes are considered to be the responsibility of the property owner and it’s up to them to ensure they are in good working order.
